The Gunner's Mates of sixth division were responsible for our anti-aircraft batteries.  This included the five-inch and three-inch mounts.  These guys manned and maintained the guns that wound up doing shore bombardment rather than blasting any airborne threats.

Long hours on watch and the pounding of the guns made for long cruises, but also meant that we were always ready to accomplish our mission.
